Pensioners seeking to travel are finding that age is not always an issue with some insurers, but it takes some shopping around. According to Help the Aged, a quarter of travel insurance policies do not cover the over-65s, despite the fact that retirement is often the time when most people get the chance to voyage.
However, selected insurers such as Saga and Nationwide will cover older people, while Nationwide has raised the age limit for its travel insurance policies up to 85.
Despite the fact that some insurers will cover pensioners, many will charge higher premiums to do so, arguing that older people are more likely to require expensive treatment. Even with no declared medical problems, older people are still likely to be hit with high charges.
For those looking to holiday with insurance, some policies available on the internet are available, though it is advisable to check the small print to ensure levels of cover given and any excesses.
In addition, brokers may also be able to offer travel insurance tailored towards individual needs.
With many pensioners looking to travel to make the most of their retirement, insurance cover is available out there if looked for, giving peace of mind whilst touring the globe.
