ABTA reject claims on pricing confusion
10 January 2007  The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) has rejected a study by Which? magazine investigating the prices offered by tour operators to British travellers, including those with holiday insurance.

ABTA states that while Which? claims four examples of unavoidable additional charges on the price of a holiday, three of these are in fact optional.

Furthermore, ABTA noted that discrepancies between prices in travel brochures and online can be explained by the difference in time between publication as a result of supply and demand.

David Marshall, head of policy and communications at ABTA, said: "The majority of package holiday deals are booked through ABTA members. Any potential confusion on pricing will be clarified before a client makes a booking."

He added that the association would work with its members to guarantee the accuracy and clarity of holiday pricing.

Last year, holiday insurance provider Direct Line claimed that 20 per cent of holidaymakers who purchase their cover from a travel agent will travel with a pre-existing medical condition while being unaware if they are adequately covered as a result.
